Arnold George Smith DFM was my brother in laws brother.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal for downing a German aircraft while an Air Gunner.
He served in 49 Squadron and 106 Squadron R.A.F. He was a wireless Operator / Air Gunner.
Arnold was killed bombing Dusseldorf on the 1st August 1942. His Lancaster R5604 was never seen again and Arnold has no known grave. The aircraft R5604 was the first bomber aircraft to carry the 8000 pound bomb.

A complete record of Arnold is available to anyone who would be interested for historical purposes. This includes his log book and other details. If you wish to have these please post a personal message and your email address.

Please note : For for historical reasons and records.

    They Are Remembered.
