Just finished a long post on warship data that would be a lot better if done as a table, but so far the only waty I've found is to do it in word or excel, do a screen capture and then post it as an image!!!
Any volunteers for a "how to" ? seems I'm not the only one who cant's post tables, I do have some HTML basics but no great wish to experiment (messing around with td and tr hoping to get the desired results feels too much like work!).

If you can code a table in HTML, you can code a table in BBCode used here, since the syntax is very similar(although the BB Code link at the bottom of the page won't tell you how to do so, but it works)
example of a BB Code table can be found here: BBCode Reference Guide

The only thing with BB Code is that headers and borders do not work, so when creating your table, don't forget to add and extra row for your headers, and the lack of borders may make it harder to read a large table

I have found it easier just to create a basic table, click on the "preview post" button(this will create your table in the message box), and then just edit in the information I want.

PS If this is a large table, why don't you just use WinRAR to compress your Excel file and then post that as an attachment(.ZIP files are supposed to be OK to add as attachments). Just make sure you select ZIP in the "archive format" box.

Here are some instruction on how to create a table. I've never had pause to create a table, so I don't know what to do after slide #3, but maybe this can get you started

And I wondered what all those fancy buttons were for, but never felt the need to experiment.

Beats doing it the "hard" way...

Thanks!!
Takao your table looks very nice, but all I see in my browser is the HTML code not how you go there!
I had already done the obvious and tried "advanced" but I missed the table buttons I will give it a try. I don't want to post excel files as I have in mind a sort of "ongoing project" to be updated as I find new data and I want the results to be immediately visible to other rogues without the hassle of loading into an application.

Basically, posting tables in ipb as it currently stands, sucks balls. (you may have noticed this! ;) ).
Been through it on 2T, and while you can get half way there it's deeply unsatisfying without html (and only an idiot allows live html posts in a forum).
Mind-meltingly tedious to get right.

Make a screen-grabbed jpeg ...

Some talk on the ipb4 development channel of incorporating an easier table system, but that major update may be a way off.... Or may not.
It's only the Internet...

I know, tried it before myself.  Quite irritating.  As Adam said, it is the forum engine.

Perhaps take a screen shot of the table and post it as a photo?
