Commander of 6th army Reichenau died of a heart attack early in 1942 just before the 42 campaign starts. A very competent commander and a early supporter of Hitler, it is interesting to think how the campaign would have gone if he remained in command. I wonder if he would have made the same mistake of wasting troops in trying to take Stalingrad or if he even would have convinced Hitler to leave the Pzrs under his command seizing Stalingrad early and maybe eliminating the bridgeheads along his flank.
