Can anyone please advise if there was a standard route home for troops returning to the UK prior to discharge. Specific detail is from posting in Urbach, embarking for UK 13 May 1946 ending up in Thirsk prior to demob. I have no further information in either service record or war diary. Thank You Brian
I bumped a similar question on sister site WW2T and got a very interesting reply from on of the veterans re the use of staging posts to get troops across Italy, France, Germany etc. Sorry to revisit but just wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of where information may be available. Cheers Brian
Brian, I know that repatriated German PoWs were sent to and from particular ports, but can't remember where. Was it Bremen or Bremerhaven in the British Zone again?
Hi Gordon I have been given the McNaughton Report as a basis of troop movements from BAOR to UK. I am unable to cut and paste the link but a quick internet search "McNaughton Report BAOR" throws up the link. Cheers Brian
