I have just started playing the PC online game World of Tanks. If anyone is a tank enthusiast from the Second World War it is free to play. Just be patient with the download . Remarkably detailed and engaging. The gameplay is easy to pick up and quite addicting. The real interesting component is in the building of your armored squadron and consistent tank updates. Beware, it's addicting.
You should also look at war thunder they are putting in tanks as well as navy vessels on top of air combat
I just started WOT, too. Very cool game for free, no less. The download, as KJ says, is enormous, but it's worth the wait. The graphics details are good enough to get SWMBO to comment "that looks real!" as she walked by. It is very addictive and many hours will be wasted getting your a$$ blown off by eleven-year-olds.
In my opinion War Thunder is better than WoT. More dynamic and less punishing to those who do not pay to play.
Although I have not tried War Thunder, I find thus far, in WOT, that there has been no need to pay for anything. I do not have the income to pay for armament upgrades but I have been playing very well with a modest light PzKfWg II with armament upgrades distributed through experience points. How does War Thunder value upgrades?
+1 As a matter of fact, I have seen maybe one or two players that have "gold" tanks. It's actually severely frowned on to buy fancy tanks or shells when one is "Seal Clubbing." ("Seal Clubbing" is the WOT term used when experienced players play with the noobs. I am still a seal, and get clubbed frequently, but still enjoy it.) John
Thanks for the info, I didn't know what the term meant. Also, I generally just spawn into a battle on quick play. Being new at the game, is there, besides a pre set match, that you can specify what skill level to play with, or does it just randomly select the battle?
The WOT supercomputer plugs you into games where the teams are "equal" and the players are at the same "tier." It won't make you face a Tiger II in a tinfoil T1. But you may find yourself up against a team where you are at the bottom of the food chain and some opponents are using tanks that are two tiers better than you. Watch the team board to the left to see where you fit in. If you are the top name, it means your tank is one of the best in that battle. If you are the bottom name, run, hide, and try to survive, because everyone's tank is better than yours and they are aiming at your keister.
Actually play WoT my self, Also looking at downloading WoP, Heard the same mob is looking a a naval version and apparently rumours of all 3 being combined though that seems unlikely.
While I think it's a great idea, I admit to having problems connecting the dots. The Planes can attack either the tanks or the ships. The ships can attack tanks if they are on the coast. The ships can defend against planes, maybe? Overall, the tanks are toast. They have no AA capability and taking on a destroyer with your Pz III seems a tad foolish.
WW2 Online has been doing air, land, and sea aspects fairly well. The land units even have AFVs, guns, and individual infantry. They also have a player driven strategic layer, when players make strategic decisions about when attacks will be made, and where to deploy forces. I'm not sure a T-34 will go against the Scharnhorst per se, but there are ways to integrate these into the game. Interesting to see how they do it. I've played War Thunder and World of Tanks, and in my mind WT wins hands down. They are doing a much better job integrating tanks and aircraft at the same time, and I think a better job at tank vs tank only, and air vs air only.
WT = War Thunder WoT = World of Tanks I prefer War Thunder myself, although I haven't played much at all.
Thanks, that was my guess but I've seen an awful lot of acronym overloading and it's getting worse. Better to ask and be sure IMO.
Indeed. And to add to the confusion, the World of Tanks guys made a new game call World or Warplanes. But since WoW = World of Warcraft, they somehow made World or Warplanes = WoP.
they have actualy brought WoT onto consoles now, its an older version but still fun to play. Just out of curiosity, what tanks do you guys have in Wot? i have an M4, M4A3E8, T26E4, Panzer IV, VK 30.01 H, Tiger and a Tiger II
