Thanks for posting. Great news. Looks like it will be doing some membership flights from Humberside, my local airport http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/archive/raf-bbmf-to-host-canadian-warplane-heritage-museum-lancaster-during-visit-to-england-24022014 We are sure to see it flying overhead at some point
That is unbelievable - we were disussing on another Forum about the long-term loan to Canada of the RAF Museum's Hawker Typhoon. In a fit of annoyance I suggested that maybe the CWH Lanc could come over to display alongside the BBMF Lancaster. The guys on the other Forum now think I have stellar influence !
Love to hear all 8 of those engines in the air at one time. Reckon they ought to do a special trip to Germany, one last time.
Too bad I won't be able to these Two Lancs in formation. I guess I'll have to be content in seeing the bomber off (the CWH museum is very close to me).
Ditto. I'm less than an hour away and I usually see the ol' girl airborne over Niagara Falls. I always stop and stare at it until she's out of sight. Just brightens my day.
I see that Lanc about once a month flying over Hamilton. 70 years on those Rolls Royce Merlins still make everyone stop in their tracks and look up. Wonderful noise. I'm going to see if I can get my Jeep into the airshow this year. Last year they had one just caddying a few museum employees around. If you go this year and see one in the markings of the 4th Armored driving around feel free to walk over and say "hi".
I'm a happy bunny. Thanks to XH558's team sharing their flightplan, myself, the missus & boys chanced a trip to Coningsby today. Doubling up my posts from 2T, so apologies to those that visit there too: 1 From the Vulcan's Friendface feed. An Avro triple flight plan for tomorrow: View attachment 21228 2 Couple of hours ago, I saw two Lancaster bombers, a Vulcan and a Spitfire fly right over me. Legs a little wobbly and came over a bit peculiar. Genuine tear in the eye. 3 Aircraft photography is not my thing, and to be honest I intentionally took the camera off my face at the best moment as I wanted to enjoy the experience. Nice feeling as you go through Coningsby village, as many houses & businesses decked with Maple Leafs & Union Jacks. A not unpleasant hour spent watching Typhoons & Tornados mucking about: Some little friends set off before the big boys arrive.
Main Event: What really gets me... Avro Lancaster First flight 9 January 1941 Introduction February 1942 Retired 1963 (Canada) Avro Vulcan. First flight 30 August 1952 Introduction 20 July 1956 Retired March 1984 ...Is that the two designs first flew only 11 years apart. I find that mind boggling. (One small and possibly shameful admission, is that it might have been nice to see the Lancs without the Vulcan, just to hear those eight Merlins more clearly.)
Have to agree with you, Adam, two Lancs on their own would sound much better. I've heard a whisper that the Lancasters will be making an appearance at this years airshow at Southport, so I may still get to see them both in flight.
