Hello everyone I am new to the forums here and would like to ask a question Where would I be able to go to find out more information on my father in law that served in WWII so far I have he was with the 37th Infantry Division (Buckeye) and completed two campaigns in the Pillippines he was discharged as a Sergeant First Class. His name is William O Lipscomb he is now 95 years old and on his death bed, I would like to be able to pass some information to his family. Many Thanks in Advance
Welcome. This is one of the most common questions posted here. There is an entire forum section dedicated to it. - http://www.ww2f.com/forum/34-military-service-records-genealogical-research/ For US Service Records, go to this thread there: http://www.ww2f.com/topic/13562-requesting-copies-of-military-personnel-records/ It would be nice of the moderators could rename the thread to Requesting Copies of USA Military Personnel Records It might help avoid so many repetitions of this question... Skipper?
Welcome Tim, Check out this thread, a bit old but some good stuff: http://www.ww2f.com/topic/12034-37th-infantry-division/?hl=%2B37th+%2Binfantry+%2Bdivision There are some folks here who have info on the 37th, give them a little time and I'm sure you'll get some help.
It would be helpful to know the Regiment to which he was assigned. The 37th saw action in the Solomon Islands as well as the Philippines. If he only saw action in the Philippines, he could have been a replacement. I'm more inclined to think that was not the case, but we don't have enough info to know one way or the other. Do you have any medals, patches, pins, or photos of him in uniform? They could give clues to his service. Also, if he or anyone in the family has a copy of his discharge papers, that would be great help.
