That's what people who met him called him, but in a friendly and admiring way. Every year people like this drift up here and die or end up being rescued from some ridiculous situation.

But, Francois Guenot seems to be a different sort. He's pedaled thousands of miles on bikes he found in dumps, built his own kayak out of scraps and worked hard at various manual labor jobs to earn money for each stage of his adventure. In the linked story, everyone who met him liked him and then in the commentary below the story others step forward and remark that he was a fine and thoughtful guy.

Guenot's philosophy was ā€œIā€™d rather die in the ocean than die chained to a desk like a dog." That may have happened, but some who met him think he will still turn up.

Suspect this story. Because it says about the Frenchman: "Everyone liked him.". Just sayin'.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

He just seemed like a really great guy. Some of these other people who show up are just flakes, but this Guenot just wanted to live on the edge and he prepped as well as he could within his limited means. When you roll the dice sometimes you lose... Francois Guenot has my respect.

Google Chris McCandless or Timothy Treadwell for flakes who don't earn my respect.

I'm all for French Immersion, I just wish they would hold them under for a little longer.

    Vive la France, dammit!

If Guenot ever comes crawling out of the alders asking for a glass of wine, a biscuit and some neosporin for all the bear bites, I'm going to tell him what you guys said and then send him over to Poppies house. He will be one angry Frenchman!

Cac what cave have you been living in. The last atomic test performed by the French in the Pacific was under President Chirac, that was years ago and it was in their own "back yard" and thousand kms away from your home. I'm not saying what they did those days is right, it was just like the Brits the Americans, and the Russians did before . Fighting for reverence ? who isn't?

kodiak ? What's wrong with the Dutch?
