The title of this thread is misleading in two respects: 1. As the linked item explicitly states, it is the USSR anthem, NOT the Russian anthem. 2. The date is 1945, not 1943 - a victory parade in 1943 would have been oddly premature. The group recalling it in 2009 without comment were clearly die-hards - the USSR had been non-existent for 19 years, along with its sole permitted political party - the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
The melody is still the same and for the rest of the world the words do not matter, since we wouldn't understand them anyway. The melody of an anthem is a strong symbol and now the message Russia is giving is that Russia = the USSR.
Chill out people, I just thought it would be interesting to actually understand the Lyrics, sorry for the "misleading title" . I hope I won't be sent to the gulag for this. The Anthem was played officially on January 1st 1944. I can therfore assume it was composed in 1943. Here is the source. The video also mentions the 1943 date. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Anthem_of_the_Soviet_Union
I was always partial to the "Hunt for Red October" version myself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KsdmlJX0Ss
