Jacob Griffen was a United States marine during World War II. He fought on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. During Okinawa he was killed when a mortar blew to close to him and sharpnel hit him the neck. He got his nickname Applejack because he worked as an apple farmer in Missouri before the war. He held the rank of Private and served as a support gunner. He carried a BAR on Okinawa and a Browning M1919 on Iwo Jima. He was the 2nd son of Stella and Roland Griffen. He died at the age of 25 at Shuri Castle.

One of my relatives fought at Shuri! He was the Gunny of E Company, 7th Marines and was later commissioned as a Captain for Korea.

He wasn't in E company. I don't know what company he was in. He never told anyone and we just don't know. Wonder if they saw one another.
