Hi guys, Found my way again to this forums since a long time. Got a new research topic on my hands. For a soccer pall of mine who has adopted a grave on Netherlands Memorial and Cemetary for his 1 year old daughter. For detaisl please view the database entry for Louis S Jacobus http://www.adoptiegraven-database.nl/index.php/margraten/american-war-cemetery-margraten-j/4610-jacobus-louis-s I'm most interested in the general orders for the Silver and Bronze star. I've contact the Morrisson County Liberary but they could'nt help me. Does anyone can be of any assistance ? It's for a little girl Thanks !
Hey! A lot of my family hails from Morristown. If you can find a 5th Armored Division web site or something of the nature, the general orders containing the citation may be listed there. I'm not as record-savvy as some more seasoned forum members, so that's all I can think of right now. Good Luck!
This link is the AAR for April 1945. It gives pretty good detail, so you should be able to glean something from it. http://www.5ad.org/04_45.html
You can download the AAR of the 47th Armored Infantry Battalion from CARL: AAR 47th AIB According to Home of Heroes: Jacobus, Louis S. HQ, 5th Armored Division, G.O. No. 20 (1945) Obviously, you would need to find the 5th AD's General Order #20 for 1945.
Any chance your family is willing to help with the research ? Any chance you know were to obtain this general order ?
Read through this thread: www.ww2f.com/topic/41008-after-action-reports/ Although it is about AARs, the procedure for requesting GOs would be similar. There is an email address for NARA II which, as far as I know, is still valid. I am sure that the price per page is no longer correct. I would ask them for an index (or summary) of their holdings for the 47th Armored Infantry Battalion and the 5th Armored Division. That will give you an idea of what records they have. Also mention that you are also interested in getting a copy of the GO mentioned earlier.
