Handsome fellow. Very dashing with the Errol Flynn mustachio as well. Goes to show the long arm of Hollywood transcended political and social boundaries.

I dare say that Mussolini would not have allowed American films in Italy. Jazz music was certainly banned. Whether he was worried about Italian morality, or simply wanted to encourage Italian films and music, I don't know. But I do know that Cine' City had no Hollywood for a long time, and the best thing that Allied soldier bands could do for Italian civilians during the occupation was to play them some Jazz.

Great pictures. We don't see Italian soldiers very often here. Keep them coming.

What amazes me is the fact hat the Italians were wearing ties with such a heatn even when they were among themselves. Your father's comrade on the left is wearing white daily tasks breeches, which are more appropriate for the Summer too, but both are wearing boots . Maybe it"s early or late season with more acceptable temperatures. Also the landscape makes me think of a coastal area or maybe an oasis with date trees , giving shadow and allowing some grass too.

I remember my dad telling me that his unit along with a German unit did some coastal patrols and firing at any enemy ships trying to land, So he could have been somewhere along the coast when these photos were taken.

An interesting thread. Went to give it 5 stars and realized that I don't see any option for rating threads with the new look.

My great-grandfather did yard work in a white dress shirt and bowtie-in south Alabama, where 90F+ temps and 90%+ humidity is the norm during the summer.
