D Company, 117th IR, 30th Division. This photo is actually dated November 27 while they celebrated an early Christmas somewhere near Aachen. They were celebrating early because preparations were ongoing to continue the drive into Germany, however they would soon be called south to help stem the German breakthough in the Ardennes. Here's one for one of our newer members : http://www.diehardengineer.com/Christmas1942.JPG Christmas dinner 1943, on the hood of a jeep. The striped unit patch on the sleeve and helmet of the soldier on the right shows that he belongs to the 3rd Infantry Division; the other two men served in the 163rd Signal Company. : http://liberationtrilogy.com/books/day-of-battle/historical-photos/slideshow/ The Best Christmas present ever ? http://www.studenthandouts.com/01-Web-Pages/01-Picture-Pages/10.13-World-War-II/Rest-and-Relaxation/48-Child-hugging-Soldier-Father-Christmas-1944-World-War-II.htm
