Hello to all!!! I am new here. I have started researching my father's service during World War II. From what I can determine so far he was a member of the 106 AAA Bn. He always told me that he was a cannoneer on a half track. His date of departure was 4 Sep 43, destination MTO, date of arrival 25 Sep 43. Any information you could supply me with or help in pointing me in a direction for research would be much appreciated.
If you have his discharge papers,Please post it.Much info can be garnered from it by members of the forum. Good luck on your project. Bob
Here's a website dedicated to the service of a veteran of the 106th AAA AW. I'm not sure how much it will help, but it is interesting.
Here's a picture of the patch. There's a brief history of the unit here http://www.skylighters.org/aaapatches/index13.html This is a DUI for the unit.
It was the 106th Coast Artillery Battalion until 14 July 1944 when it was re-designated the 106th AAA Automatic Weapons Bn. Here is an interesting article that mentions the 106th CA Bn: The Hammer of Hell - Chapter 3, The Tunisian Campaign. A little more than half way down the page is a photo of a half-track with an AA gun mounted. The photo is of a different Coast Artillery unit, but it may be similar to what your father used.
My father was also a member of the 106th CA/AAA Bn, Battery C. I have been researching this unit for over four years now. I am by no means an expert, but I would be happy to answer any questions if I can. Will also share resources. If anyone uses Facebook, look for "Photos from Camp Hulen" Group. I am thinking I will create a group for the 106th CA/AAA Bn. It would be a good forum for those interested in the 106th to get acquainted and share info. Please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for this offer of assistance. Do you have anything you would like to post about this unit so it can be available later on?
While the OP hasn't been here in six months, it's always nice to have a further perspective. As Jeff has said, anything you care to contribute would be appreciated.
As of this a.m., I have started a Facebook Group entitled: 106th CA/AAA Bn. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1451927671799198/. Anyone with an interest in the 106th and/or CA/AAA is most welcome to join. If anyone wants to ask me a specific question, it can be done thru that venue. Thanx, Judy
I will try this again. There is now a Facebook Group for the 106th CA/AAA Aw: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1451927671799198/. Please visit and feel free to share pictures, stories and information. If anyone has any questions, that would be a good site for that. I do hope you folks on here will find it useful. Judy

Have I ever said how much I hate Facebook? :stab: Nevertheless, I think I have tracked down jhfleenor's FB Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1451927671799198/ Sometimes FB is a necessary evil.
Thanks folks...As perhaps you guessed from three different attempts to post the web address, I was not able to get all the info to show. If you to to Facebook and type in 106th CA/AAA Aw, it should work for you. Everytime I put in the address on here the other day, it seemed to FUBAR, so there is another way. Also, if you Google it, it should provide a link to the page. There are a number of folks interested in the 106th here and there on the internet. I'm trying to touch base with as many folks as I can. Thanx a bunch...Judy
Not a problem, Judy. I did try finding it via Google search, but had no luck. Then I logged on FB (while holding my nose, of course) and it took me a bit of effort to get FB to search for what I wanted to find, but I eventually did find your Group. Hopefully, the direct link will get folks there more directly than I did.
This is the correct web address. Thanx for doing what I couldn't seem to get done. There is also another FB group some of you might find interesting...look for "Photos of Camp Hulen". This is where the 106th trained. Judy
Another source that makes for good reading about the Kasserine Pass is in the April-June 2005 issue of Air Defense Artillery magazine. Look for it on page 42 of the PDF file or page 40 of the magazine. There is a map on page 41 of the magazine. It is difficult to see...you might find the one shown in "Hammers of Hell" clearer and more instructive. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get the complete address to show up here. But one can Google it and read it there. Good Luck...Thanx. Judy
