For youngsters like Skipper who is approaching 23,000 and is a mere lad ( !) My contributions seems like a most modest output but I really have enjoyed being here and learning from all of you. I have had a long interest in the history of warfare but lack the in depth reading and research that many here have, it t is like being back in school in a good seminar.. Weirdly I actually liked school which is why I became a teacher. In another week or so I will turn 75 and , no doubt a lad to Ron, and I still work more than full time. I love my work, a good thing, but ir can be hectic and tension producing. It is nice to come here,, another world, just to enjoy the interactions. It is pretty amazing to me that we are scattered all over the world and yet instantaneously connected . I grew up on a farm with a generator cranked party line phone. . Now I can be on a job site in East Alabama and get a call from my daughter in Wuhan China ! Small world. This is a very small accomplishment but actually meant a lot to me because of you guys. Now for the next 1000................................................................................................................................................................................GB
I feel the same way as you. I came to the forum seeking information on a family member. But after seeing the interaction among the members and the wide distribution of members around the World I've gained a better appreciation for much more than the second world war but the World as a whole. Not the least of which were some of your own posts, so Thank You.
Everything, to use a cliche, is relevant....... When I first posted on the BBC.People's War site I managed to notch up 100 postings before the site was closed down. You may be surprised to learn that this very small figure still allowed me to become one of the major contributors to the site which closed down in 2006. I then found ww2f and see that over the years I have managed to post a modest number of 500 postings. My major claim to literary endeavor is on ww2talk where my present count is nearing 6,000 which however pales in comparison with the postings of over 20,000 made by other more industrious forum members. So, as I said earlier, it's all relevant and it behoves us all just to continue posting articles in the hope that what we have to say may be of interest to others. Ron Ps And yes, Gaines, you are 75 which might seem old to others. I am 91 which makes you a comparitive youngster Best regards !
Congratulations Gaines knowing you through this forum has been something special! I too want to be a teacher one day, and you have been one of the continuing inspirations for me to follow that path!
Well I posted to say thanks to all you guys and our MIA girls, of late, and in turn got all these nice replies so thank all of you again.....grazie, kiitos, danke, gracias, tak, dankejewel, , dioloh yh fauk and what ever the Aussies and Canadians speak ! ,........... sorry if I left anyone out. Glad my wonderful wife does not read my post, she would get on to me about my endless run on sentences. I need to get Biak to edit my writing as he says more with less words ! A gift. Believe it or not my grandmother taught me to end letters with..... "I am and remain your obedient servant " No wonder I am verbose Gaines PS, just noticed , 1001 and an "M" by my name ! .
Gaines, I look forward to your posts. You always have something to add. It's a real pleasure to read what you have to say. Like others, I came seeking information about my father and stuck around because I enioy the give and take with others. I certainly lack the knowledge of some, but I learn as I read these posts. It has rekindled my interest in reading more on the subject. Here's to your next 1000.
For some reason, I thought you had already passed this mile marker. Congratulations on your first 1,000 posts, Gaines!
Professor, I've had to learn, the hard way after being married over 40 years, one needs to pick his words carefully, speak quickly and then run like hell!
Very pleased to have you around Gaines. I am sure members will join me in wishing you a very Happy 75th Birthday today. Have a lovely day young man Lesley
Isn't 75 celebrated with tequila and hookers who jump out of a large cake, the gifts should be made of wood.
