Hi there, My name is Nancy and I'm from Iowa...hence the user name NancyIA. I'm the proud daughter of a WWII veteran, Roy E. Ostrem who served in the Army from 1943-1945 in Leyte and Okinawa. He was part of the 96th Infantry Division.
Welcome to the Forum, Nancy. It's great to have another Upper Midwesterner here. What motivated you to join? Personal research? General interest in WWII?
Hi there Tommy, I enjoy history and learning what I can. Due to my dad having served in WWII, I like to learn what I can about the war.
Hi Nancy. Glad to have you here. You may already have seen this, but here's a brief history of the 96th. http://www.history.army.mil/html/forcestruc/cbtchron/cc/096id.htm You might also be interested in this http://www.96thdeadeyes.org/
Welcome Nancy, glad to have you. I'm in Chicago but travel to Iowa about once every couple of months.
Thank you for the warm welcomes. Otto, you live in a nice city but I don't think I could ever drive there. I am too used to county roads and small town driving. Where in Iowa do you travel?
Hi Nancy, I usually travel to the Eastern part of the state: Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Davenport, etc. It's always for work so I don't get much time for exploring. I do like Chicago, but my comfort zone is areas with much fewer people round. I get to the outdoors as often as I am able.
Otto, Eastern Iowa is our old stomping grounds. We lived there for 28 years before moving to central iowa. We have family in Cedar rapids. Small world.
