today is the anniversary of my dads death and I've been searching for information about his specific tour of duty during WW2.I wrote to the military and they gave me a lot of paper work about the 78th div, but very little on the 307th FA. I am looking for information about my dads service and the 307th movements during their deployment. what medals and patches did they have/receive? I dont have his SS# and my mother has died also, so she never gave me any info about my dad. if anyone could lead me in a few good directions, I would appreciate it. Thank You. [IMG]

    Welcome to the forum, rocket9244!

The Eisenhower Library has a good collection of records for the 78th ID, including a number for the Divisional Artillery consisting of monthly After Action Reports and Unit Journals. Go to the following link, select Volume VI, right near the top of the page, and scroll down to page 14-15 when the volume opens. You can contact them about copies of the files or if you live within range, visit and copy them yourself.

Unfortunately, as you will see, there are unit histories for two of the 78th artillery battalions but none for the 307th. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist as the records at Eisenhower are supposed to be "extra's" from the Archives at College Park, MD.

You mentioned getting records for the 78th from the military, could you be more specific on who you contacted and what they sent. Do you have an index of the records from the National Archives for the 78th ID?
