I had the pleasure of seeing these two planes today. Unfortunately, because of my physical limitations, I was unable to go inside. They were also offering rides, but since they started at $500, I passed.
Nice!. Love the 1941 markings on the 24. Don't think I've ever seen even a B&W picture of one like that.
Very nice Lou. I've had the honor of seeing both Diamond Lil and FiFi in flight and on the tarmac but have never gone inside. I've been in a couple B17s though (Aluminum Overcast being the most recent) and they're a lot tighter inside than they look!
good for you....how tempting to pay that for a ride in a WW2 plane...I've seen B17s fly overhead, not too high, and what a feeling....the sound is very unique...thanks for putting up the pics......good to see them in 'real' time
I've been through Fuddy Duddy back in the eighties but couldn't afford a ride. Tight fit, like you said, especially in the nose
I know modern aircraft are faster and more aerodynamic, but they don't elicit the same kind of feeling as WW2 craft, Spitfires, Hurricanes, and others give me a thrill beyond compare. I have a whole book about WW2 aircraft that I love to look at.
Where's the SB2C? If anyone's thinking of going, they'll be there there through Sunday. http://www.airpowersquadron.org/#!philadelphia-pa/cdnx Also, this group will be in my area next weekend http://www.maam.org/maamwwii.html
Strange. Only the three aircraft were there, unless the SB2C was flying when I was there. I'm sorry I missed seeing it.
yes, one of the unique things when I saw the B17s was how 'slow' they were going...it was like a slow, parade walk.....I think it gives it kind of a majestic aura...
The sound of an Allison or Rolls Royce is music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik4HSFoYEE4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1mh99ZLXcw
I crawled around both them in the early 1980s in Texas. Glad you got to see them and wished you could have been able to go inside.
