Hi, my name is Lynette. My grandfather was in the Army Air Corp in WWII. I recently read his pocket journal that he wrote every mission he went on, among other comments in. Just here to communicate with others and maybe find someone who knew him? It's just something important to me. To find out as much as I can about him.
Welcome Lynette. I hope you are able to learn more about your grandfather. Have you been able to scan or transcribe the book? What unit was he in?
Thanks everyone. Please be patient as I'm very New and not good at this. I just sent a message to Slip dig it, but I'll put this here too. His name and Info I have, written in the cover of the flip book journal is:Sgt.Howard Dodd-39562480, 585th Bomb Sqdn., 395th Bomb Grp./P.M.,A.P.O 140.And there is 64 missions, including "D-day" written in there. That's all I know
Are you certain that the journal says 585th Bomb Squadron, 395th Bomb Group? The 395th BG disbanded in early 1944. The 585th BS was part of the 394th BG and flew B-26 Marauders, a twin engine light bomber.
Can I post a photo here? I can take a picture of it and show you. Maybe you can figure it out because no, I'm not 100% sure because there are some cross outs and stuff so not sure the meaning Slipdigit
So I was looking at the flip book journal and his last mission, mission 64,he has a date of March 12,1945
I don't know why it says what it says about the bomb squad, but it says it, and I know my Grandpa wrote this during the war.
click on "More Reply Options" at the bottom right of the page, then click on "Choose Files" bottom left. It will then give you opportunity to navigate to the photo (preferably jpegs). I think you can attach six or eight at one time. be sure that each photo is not too large or the upload will fail. I think that they need to be about 0.5 megs or smaller.
Hope this works. Here is the inside cover of his flip book journal.. You can see what it says there. And My grandfather was not a man to lie or one for attention. He became one of the best LAPD Srgnts.in the division and was nominated for Chief Of Police, which he turned down. He was known to be one of the most honest, straight forward men around. So I'm sure this is right.
