Just been to the wonderful Overloon Museum which is on the site of the actual battle. There is an enormous amount of recovered WW2 vehicles, tanks, weapons and armoury. Everything is very well presented and I nearly jumped out my skin when loud noises of bombing and artillery fire started. I only noticed when I left that there was a red flashing button that could be pressed to start the re-enactment of a war scenario. Of course, every passing child pressed it! The villagers were also well represented and had been evacuated. Some did not return for 5 years until their houses were rebuilt. A must see place if you are ever in the Netherlands.
One of the most enjoyable threads I've seen. Tons of fantastic pictures. Thanks Toki. http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/56552-overloon-museum/
Overloon is a fantastic museum. Its certainly one of the best I've been too. It is to vehicles, artillery and infantry weapons what the National Museum of the USAF is to aircraft.
Great find and near the german border too, so not too far away for me. Will visit it for sure one day.
If I ever get the chance to go back to Europe, this museum will definitely be on my list of places to go.
We picked a great day to be inside in a museum as it was 32degrees and much too hot for us Scots. We are at a campsite with little shade so resorted to a pop up gazebo and my feet in a bucket of cold water!
Original Bailey Bridge used for many years by a town in the Netherlands until a new bridge was built. Donated by the community to the museum.
