I am researching two WWII KIA soliders for my next book. I check the Internet and Ancestry and could not find their company or battalion which is what I need. They are: Pfc William Van Blarcom, Jr. s/n 42012523 333rd IR, 84th ID KIA December 26, 1944 Pfc William A. Mills s/n 32761309 104th IR, 26th ID KIA December 25, 1944 Any help is appreciated and thanks.
You could request their respective Individual Deceased Personnel File. The IDPF usually has their Company listed, if you know their Company you will know their Battalion. The down side is that it can take up to 47 weeks to get the file. I requested one last July and just got it last week.
Last November I did request the IDPFs. The burial report in the IDPF will give the company. Base upon Van Blarcom's death date and regiment I am able to determine that he was with the first battalion and most like Company A or B. The second and third battalions of the regiment were not engaged on December 26. I can write his story for the book based upon that information. If I have his IDPF before the book is printed I can update it if need. For Mills I'll have to use his death day and see where the regiment was.
