Assistance Identifying a deceased member of the family

I have a few photos from my family on my mothers side- My grandmother was jewish during world war 2 and was sent to the concentration camps (Which she escaped with some American Soldiers later and retreated to Berlin, away from the Russians). She lived in Czechoslovakia with her brothers, and I found a pair of photos that interest me very much. I was told they were both part of the German Army during world war 2. The one that interests me the most is the one on the left. From what I've been told, it appears to be a Luftwaffe insignia but I can't connect anything other then the photos and his name;

Gustav Fritsch was his name. The first photo was taken in 1944. The other photo was taken 1937-38. He died during the war.






This is the information I have on him. Can anyone connect the dots, release to me some information, or just generally give me any knowledge on this lost relative?

 

Only 1 Gustav Fritsch fits the Volksbund Database. (the others are from WW1 or too old, or died before 1944 )

According to his shoulder tabs his rank was Gefreiter in the Luftwaffe (yellow tabs) . Flak had red tabs.

Now what's interesting is that only one of them died in 1944 and makes the 1944 picture possible . This man died at Tscherwonyje,north of .Januschpol

 

So he died on the 8th of 1944, on the Eastern Front? I am rather curious now as to whether he died on the ground or was shot down. The photo had 1944 written on the back of it, which made me assume it was 1944 when he died or it was taken.


If he was indeed shot down, I am very curious as to what sort of plane he would have been flying. Would he have been some form of ground crew, or was he in the air? If he was in the air, did he die in a dive bomber, or perhaps a fighter? All questions I'd love to have answered, if you can.
