I'm doing a model of a Landing craft tank and need to know where they usually painted their nickname.
I think I looked at every image on the net without finding one name. Thanks for any help.

Google "Coast Guard Hyperwar" for pics of landing craft.

ETA: Adding "Hyperwar" to your google search will save time when looking for anything WWII.

Thanks Ron, that's a post war converted one, but it looks like a likely spot to Paint a nick name.
I'll try some of the Hyperwar sites that OpanaPointer suggested to see if I can't run across WWII era one too.

One of my most abiding memories of ww2 was the trip I did on a TLC between Sicily and Reggio di Calabria in Italy in September 1943

Some 70 years later, through a very generous cash grant from the Lottery's "Hero's Return" scheme , I sailed with my wife on a car ferry across the very same straits.

I don't remember seeing any name on the boat at the time, I was probably too busy thinking about what awaited us once we had made the crossing :)

So glad you made it through the war and also having the chance to experience it again without someone shooting at you.
My brothers LCT was delivering a load of British enlisted and officers to Salerno and came under intense 88 shelling- killing one officer and wounding many others including three of the crew. My brother has terrific respect for the British.

Just to keep the record straight and simply because I dislike people who sail under false colours I have to report that I did not land on Italy's D Day as my then Regiment was busy supplying the covering fire for the troops who made the original landings.

It was true however that when we eventually crossed the Messina Straits we truly did not know what to expect when we landed and it was truly a momentuous event in my then young life.

Going back to the spot with my wife was for me a wondrous occasion. !

Regardless of the minor details, you still earned the title "Warrior". Wear it with pride.
