Years ago, calling someone a "bird brain" was a derogoratory term. Saw an experiment where a crow would drop stones into a tube, in order to raise water level and grub floating in it, for a meal. These guys are using tools: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/08/150826113817.htm
Using tools for sure...they can see into the future, and plan many steps for a result...but they still can't 'make' tools...this IMO is due to them simply not having hands with deposible thumbs...if the did, then they I think, would fashion simple tools...it's a facet of intelligence not the whole story...
i missed something... Isn't the bird depicted in the link -fashioning a tool, which it used to stab and retract grubs?
Hmmm...yes suppose...it's hard to tell the difference with these simple tools...what's an actual tool and what's simply solving a problem...there's a subtle difference...sort of like I have to get across a river, I may see a fallen log and hack a bit of a hollow in it and jump on and float across...different to cutting the tree down and digging it out and paddling across and re-using it...same result though...Chimps fashion ant eating tools too...but again, very simple...technically tools, but a tool maker?
I'd rather read/understand the Cardassians. Far more interesting IMO and also IMO a much better indicator of intelligence.
And of we members of this forum , Otto may throw us out ! Personally I think it is some sort of Canadian plot to undermine our mentality before they invade. A pincer maneuver completed by the Mexicans . They agreed to join in if they could have The Donald. That is my theory and I am sticking to it.
Mexicans, Canadians, the Kardashians, the Donald, tabloids; now I'm really worried. All of them (with the exception of Canadians) are for the birds. Years ago Hitchcock made a movie called The Birds. It was very scary, but not as scary as this thread.
Never heard that bird brain was ever a derogatory word before. Maybe s#1t for brains or maybe even d1ck brain, but not bird brain. Maybe in Canada eh you hoser.
Yes, Canadian derogatory terms are famous for our particular vitriol. In a sentence: -You left the fridge open and the beer is warm, you darn birdbrain. Ouch. We can be really mean. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/birdbrain Have had 3 bird experiences in the last month...Most bird experiences I have are not good. I consider being crapped on a good omen. ..Birds crashing into my window and dying is a bad omen. 1-Wondered why a Magpie didn't fly away when i left the house...It just looked at me while on the railing. Came home a few hours later and realised bird had a broken wing. So it was hopping around, I left it alone. ..3 days later a terrible stench indicated bird died in garbage can by door. Had to dispose of body and mess. 2- Weird noises 2 nights in a row. ..Went in basement to do laundry, noticed a smell. Almost jumped out of pantaloons when saw a big black wing sticking out of chimney cleanout, and some HUGE flies all around...Magpie fell down chimney and tried getting out for 2 days. Cleaned and disposed that mess. 3- On way to car, noticed movement in garage window. A bird was flying against the window like a wasp trying to escape. How did a bird get in there? So i go in, open door wide, lift window blinds, and a very small HUMMINGBIRD tries to hide by tucking its eyes behind some stuff on window ledge. lol'd.. Managed to get it to fly out the door. Thinking now, want a love bird.
