Got this from my grandfathers belongings. Appears to be something he brought back from war. It's very heavy and seems solid. Attempting to get pics in here now. Would like to know what it is if possible and to know if I need to be worried what's in it.

It would be easier if we had exact measurements. By eyeball, it looks smaller than a 3 inch or 75 mm shell. It's impossible to tell if it safe (inert) from the photos.

Yep. Good point. 4 inches long exactly. 1.5 inches wide (diameter). About 4 7/8 inch around the smooth body (circumference). And weighs 1lb 12.2 oz. thanks for the reply.

Then it's a 37mm round. From which country, I don't know. Just about everybody in WWII used them in light tanks, anti-tank guns and even mounted on aircraft like the Stuka. We have some people that can probably ID it by shape and dimensions.

Not really sure if it's a shell or a full round including the cartridge, though the grooving makes me think a shell. But have it looked at by an expert as I would not assume it's harmless. If the hole in the base was for a fuse or a firing cap the charge may still be there.

You may try here for identification but check it's safe before.

Doesn't Tony also have a forum? Possibly linked on that site?

Yes if you go to the homepage of the link I posted you can find it, IE will not let me cut and paste so I can't add the link easily :-(.
