Louis Simpson was 327 G. After suffering heavy casualties on June 10, fighting westward between Catz and Carentan, G went into reserve but was quickly attached to the 401 (327 3BN) and attacked June 11 along the Canal a Flot (Carentan Marina approach) on the west bank. 401 A was on the east bank. They were ambushed. The linked poem narrated by Charles Denning is Louis poem. Louis was wounded in the shoulder but refused treatment. He fought through to Germany. Louis wrote a lot about his war experience and I think his best work is Soldier's Heart, about PTSD. Carentan O Carentan is a very powerful writing and is linked here.
