Look at this amazing find that has just been recovered from the river Pilica in central Poland. This looks like it could be driven away. The level of preservation is unbelievable. Scroll down to page three for the video and also keep your eye out for one of the front tires – it will blow you away, it looks brand new. A big thank you to Tomek Basarabowicz of Poland. The Sd.Kfz. 250 (German: Sonderkraftfahrzeug 250; ‘special motor vehicle’) was a light armoured halftrack, very similar in appearance to the larger Hanomag-designed Sd.Kfz. 251, and built by the DEMAG firm, for use by Nazi Germany in World War II. So, what're you smoking these days, Ike? You started one of these, mate. http://www.ww2f.com/topic/56853-two-german-halftracks-pulled-out-of-lake/?hl=%2Briver+%2Bhalftrack http://www.ww2f.com/topic/56684-the-river-of-sdkfz/ I think there's links to the Friendface pages on restoration progress in one of them, but if not to the right people they're easily found. Last I looked the restoration was thankfully going very much down the route of preserving as much paint & patina as possible while hopefully working towards runners.
lots of viewing and firing ports. i like. the level of preservation tells you only one thing: the river water is alkali, not acidic.
Ah, the Wehrmacht often used Semperit tyres. I just saw painted adverts of Semperit with pictures of PAKs recently. These halftracks were the first Schützenpanzer, as we call them in german language. I think infantry tank is the simple translation. Don't know if these type 250 is extremly rare today.
