Hey guys, I was reading a morning report showing a transfer from the Armored Replacement Training Center in 1944 to a tank battalion. The MOS reads "2610SS" which I've never seen before. Any ideas? Thanks! James
My Guess is that it is that it is part of an Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Crew: Leader, Loader, Spotter. 2601 is for that group https://militaryyearbookproject.com/references/old-mos-codes/wwii-era/army-wwii-codes/army-mos-codes-wwii-era#twothousand
When I was searching that number, that seemed to be the closest possibility with a transposed "01." Thanks!
Actually I thought the 2 and SS were extraneous and associated with something else since 610 is anti-tank gun crewman, which would fit in with being transferred to a tank battalion.
SSN2610 was replaced by SSN1736 Light Tank Crewman in the 12 Jul 44 revision of TM12-427. Looking at the Nov 44 rev of T/O&E 17-17 shows all EM crew members in the platoon as SSN1736 (19 - that's everybody except the platoon commander).
