This is Hodson's true story of his travels as a war correspondent in WWII. This book, which goes for 449 pages, deals with his travels mostly in Libya and Egypt, and his various adventures at the front with British tank units, the RAF on bombing missions and the Navy on escort duty, including a trip to Tobruk. He also goes to Syria, after the campaign is over, and to India and Burma, where he comes under Japanese air attack. This is a good record, albeit somewhat censored since the war was going on. He also uses language to describe people of color that today's reader might balk at. I recommend this to give an unflinching look at the dangerous and mundane experiences of WWII.
