Hi Andrew So glad you are with us. It's been a long time since I was 14, but I remember my Dad telling me stories about his stint in the US Army during WWII. They are factual but not by history standards, the stories he told were of his buddies and the good times they had together in Southern US, Hawaii, and Japan. He "procured" a Japanese silk parachute and as small kids we got a hold of it and made a gazillion mini parachutes and tied mini soldiers to them then dropped them off the top of a bill board in Queens, NY where we lived. Sure wish we had kept it instead. He also brought back a Japanese flag, you know the ones with the big red circle in the middle of a white field. Well all of his buddies signed that flag in Japan. My nephew has it now and had it treated and sealed in a glass frame to keep the humidity from damaging it, when my Dad saw it he cried, it is priceless. The other item he brought back from Japan was a Japanese flare gun. It was two barreled, big and heavy with Japanese identifications on it. That was stolen in a home invasion back in the 80's. Dad is gone now but bits of stories surface once in awhile, I'll relay them - once in awhile. Keep on searching for artifacts they are out there and you sound like you would appreciate them more then most. Good luck. Roth
Wow that is amazing, your father sounds like an amazing person and I wish I could have spoken with him, ano I am taking a bigger interest in the second world War and I am collecting what I can, it's really fun, and thank you for your story and your greeting!
