My Grandfather was Able Seaman Ronald Hawkins who was a Pom Pom gunner on the Destroyer HMS Quality (G62) which attained 4 battle stars, he passed away last year and I wound up with the strangest war diary in my possession, he didn’t write it and it appeared to be an unofficial carbon copy of the ship’s movements, general crew atmosphere and accounts of battle and manoeuvres with other ships. It also had a full list of the ship’s company which seems pretty amazing.

I could find no record of this document online and there is only a very small amount of information about this seemingly almost forgotten ship. I decided to undertake the mammoth effort to type it up digitally and created a website for the HMS Quality, I feel that she deserves a memorial and I doubt anyone else has one of these still in their possession and if I don’t do this, the information will be lost to time, so I created a website with all information from the war diary.

www.hms-quality.info – all 10,000+ word of the war diary.
http://www.hms-quality.info/ships-company/- All 471 officers and enlisted men who served aboard.
http://www.hms-quality.info/about-hms-quality/ - Full information about the ship
http://www.hms-quality.info/media/ - All images and pictures of the original document for reference.

I hope you get the same amount of joy from this as I do and I’m sure there are people out there with a personal connection to this ship the same as me who will learn something about their loved one’s lives aboard. Who knows some of the company may still be alive and have memories come flooding back. Please share to keep the memory of the ship and those who fought aboard her alive!

    Thanks,

    Adam

Had a quick look. Magnificent stuff. You've done everyone a great service. Thank you.

The second link listing the ship's company doesn't seem to work. Are you working on it?

There's a hyphen at the end of the URL address that shouldn't be there.

No worries. It's happened to all of us at some point.
