Username: Owen Postmark: 10 August 2016 From: Mount Kisco, New York, USA I've been away from Chicago for a spell, and I returned to a clutch of WW2F/FPS submissions. Our first postcard of the batch comes from UK resident, ten year forumite, and half human/half moose hybrid Owen who recently made a trip across the Atlantic to the East Coast of the United states. His first submission is sent from Mount Kisco, in New York State and reports on his activities in the Big Apple. His message being fueled by Samuel Adams Rebel IPA is appropriate as I'm enjoying a Crooked Tree IPA brewed by the oddballs at Dark Horse Brewery as I write this. For those who don't know, Owen is an Admin at our sister site WW2Talk.com, but we do let him post here on occasion when he's been good. Cheers Owen! Remember to check the WW2 Forums/Forces Postal Service Map for a look at our growing list of all WW2F/FPS submissions.
Hard to think after all that planning & anticipation ( I booked holiday November 2015) it's all over & we've been back for 2 weeks already. Nice seeing this postcard again , brings back some happy memories of what might have been our last family holiday for the 5 of us altogether as eldest child turned 18 the other day.
Did you find enough drinkable 'Mur'can beers? Sam Adams does a good enough turn, but I'm not a fan of IPAs. Too bitter.
I'll drink whatever I can find on holiday ......well within reason. edit. looking at that postcard, is it just me or does it look like they Photoshopped the twin towers out of an older photo as there are 2 equal sized shorter buildings were they'd be. another edit.... same photo..
I like American style IPAs. Bitter is better. Traditional English IPAs have a very different profile. I still like them, but I like my hopps. It does look like the same photo, just cropped, although the clouds appear different. I guess the WTC is cause for some editing for some people, but I'm not sure why they would just shorten them a bit.
I'll have to try some of that Sam Adams Rebel IPA. You can't go far wrong with Sam Adams and I like IPA. I assume it was named after American patriots and not "secesh"ers
Bitter is okay, as long as it is balanced with some grain. I like a beer that you can stand a spoon up in it. Looks like the same pic to me, Owen.
I think you're right re: photoshopping, Owen. Look at the fuziness about the top of the short twin towers in the original post card. Maybe they were removed to give the scene a more "vintage" 1950s era look?As for why making them short instead of wiping them out altogether, that was probably the easiest route.
