    He's not starring in it...Yet.

Deals are still in the works, nothing concrete...So, don't look for it anytime soon.

So what. Another shoot'em up is coming out one day, and that's fine by me.

Isn't he about forty years too old to play a WWII DD skipper?

Can't say that I ever heard of a 20-year-old destroyer skipper, more like 30 years too old.

It were a joke. There's a Willie and Joe cartoon where Joe, I think, meets his nephew, a full colonel in the Air Force.

It's Hollywood after all...Bogie did an excellent job in the Caine Mutiny, so, Hanks should be able to pull it off if he is cast.

Watched trailer for the Hanks-Speilberg 'Masters of the Air', good visuals, but did the 8th make any run's on Germany in 1942?

Yeah, that one. Kid had to borrow some face fur to muster up that mustache.

If it's the ship they showed in the picture for the article, that should be exciting. They'll have a hot time off Okinawa.

Wasn't the Laffey (#2) an Allen M. Sumner? (I've visited it numerous times at Patriot's Point in Charleston). The ones in the pictures in the article are; 1st picture DD-661, square bridge Fletcher class, USS Kidd. (Visited numerous times in Baton Rouge so I recognized the number). The other picture lists the ships name and it appears to be a square bridge Fletcher as well. The first Laffey was a Benson class sunk at the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal.
Either ship would be a great story, the DD-Laffey (Benson) went down engaged in a point blank gun duel with two Japanese BB's and two Japanese DD's. DD-Laffey (Fletcher) "The ship that would not die" experienced the most unrelenting Kamikaze attack in history.

I don't expect Whollywierd to know a Sumner from a Farragut.

And, two wildly hairy stories. Love to seen Last Stand of the Tincan Sailors done on film.

As the age of the skippers of those ships has been brought up, has anyone biographical details on any real WW2 skippers of them ?

Agreed. Look at that frankenship that is used as the USS Indianapolis in the latest retelling of that story. Half cruiser & half South Dakota class battleship.

Yeah, but I expect more from a project Tom Hanks is associated with than a project Nicholas Cage is in.

I'd like to hope so...But, with the budget estimation in the 30 million range, I'll keep my expectations low.

Hopefully, the USS Kidd will be used for filming, as she is in the best WW2 condition. The USS Cassin Young would be my second choice.
