He was a bit before my time, but I do remember some of his songs.

Same here, my generation had older siblings and cousins who never tired of telling us what a great time they had in the '60s, and we grew up listening to their record collections.
Saw Bobby Vee live at the Regal Rock n Blues Reunion at the SECC in Glasgow in '86, along with Del Shannon, Bo Diddley, Frankie Ford, Ricky Nelson and The Marvelettes. Very underrated singer IMO, sad to hear his loss.

I'm a bit too young too , When he sang "Take good care" I wasn't even born.

By all accounts, he was the same clean cut, decent guy that was his public persona during his career. I saw an interview with his now adult son and daughter who recalled that they would often go to bed and fall asleep as he played guitar and sang to them.

Thought you meant Bobby Vinton. Hope he is still kickin it.
There was an old folks home across the street from my 3rd grade class in Edmonton. Vinton's mom was staying there, and had the class over for a mini concert. Got his autograph. Happened to be his marriage anniversary, i wished him as much. You should of seen how happy he was. Classy.

Sorry for the highjack. I blame dave 55. Or was it Kenny?...i am not long for the old folks home too.

A little before my time too, not much. These songs were mainstays in 1960's L.A. KHJ AM 93 Hit Radio.

Robert Thomas Velline, known professionally as Bobby Vee, was an American pop singer who was a teen idol in the early 1960s. According to Billboard magazine, he had thirty-eight Hot 100 chart hits, ten of which reached the Top 20. Wikipedia

For people of our generation, the significance of his career is how it began. He got his first break due to the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly. Of course, that incident inspired Don Mclean to write the song American Pie which is about Holly's death. That song was huge in my youth even though we didn't completely understand the lyrics. ;)
