Hello, My name is Elizabeth. I am 30 years old. I love learning about WWII. My interest is the Battle of the Bulge. I had a Great Uncle who died in WWII. He was a POW from Rush Co Indiana. He trained at Camp Blanding Fla in 1944. Enlisted in March of 1944. I am trying to find out more about his training Regiment. I have found that he was Company B of the 209th Battalion 65th Infantry Training Regiment at Camp Blanding I know that he was in Hoy Belgium in November of 1944 and went missing on December 20th 1944 near Luxembourg. I have photo of a letter that he sent his Aunt in November of 1944 it was addressed GFRS Replacement Pool APO 153. I was also told he was in infantry. Germans were the detaining power. If anyone could help that would be great.
Welcome Elizabeth. There are a number of excellent researchers into the type of info you are seeking here. I'm sure they'll wander by soon and help you with your quest. They usually hang out in this area http://www.ww2f.com/forum/34-military-service-records-genealogical-research/ You might post your info there also, it would likely get a quicker response.
Welcome , Elizabeth, USMCPrice has given you excellent advice hopefully you will some of what you seek and even generate interest in WW2 in more areas. New views are good for all of us. Your great uncle was probably in Foy, Belgium, a fairly well know WW2 site. that I have not heard of Hoy by no means indicates in does not exist. Luxembourg of couse borders Belgium. Good lunch in your search. There has been an enormous amount of research done on the Bulge which may help you. Gaines
Jeff, just saw your post, I too, searched but think it is probably Foy which is in the right area. If you go to Foy on Google Earth. Drag the little orange figure to the center of the crossroads the rotate 360 degrees you get a wonderful view of the village even the road signs are very clears and point the directions to Bastogne and Houffalize. the Germans occupied and set up a headquarters in the latter. A relic Panzer is still there. Nice town.
