I would like some book recommendations. I've looked at Shirer's book and Evans' trilogy. I would like to know any other good recommendations for the overview.

Fest's biography of Hitler comes to mind.

Michael Burleigh's 'The Third Reich' ( 2000 ) gives a very good, one-volume overview and is still current. Although obviously a biography, Ian Kershaw's monumental, two-volume 'Hitler' ( '1889-1936 - Hubris' 1998, '1936-1945 - Nemesis' 2000. ) is still considered definitive and contains much detail on the rise - and fall - of Nazism.

Feeling a bit like a parrot here but ... Wages of Destruction. Note that there has been some valid criticism of the latter military details in this book but it's focus is on the German economy.
