I've noticed on another forum some discussion of a 'sequel' to Band of Brothers which is reportedly due to start filming for HBO in January 2007.

This 10-part series will follow the actions of the 1st Marine Dvision through such battles as Guadalcanal, Pelelieu, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Executive Producer is again slated to be Tom Hanks.

Sorry about the patchy info ; it was all I could find.

Anybody know anything more ?

Cheers Martin-I'd settle for a decent re-run of Combat myself!

I'm still waiting for a band of brothers style epic that follows a British/Commonwealth unit, much harder to sell to the ever important American market I suppose but it would be nice to see those chaps getting more cinematic recognition.
    I'll keep waiting.
    Cheers,
    Adam.

I was rather harsh on 'BofB' when it first came out but even so, a while back I bought the boxed-DVD set and have recently been enjoying some of the episodes.

I still find some of it rather overblown but several of the combat scenes are really quite impressive.

Martin, the 1st Marine Div. did not take part in the Battle of Iwo Jima. My understanding is that the series isn't going to follow a particular unit like Band of Brothers followed Easy Company 506 PIR 101st Airborne. They have begun casting and what follows are the lead characters.

This means that Helmet For My Pillow by Robert Leckie and With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge will be used as sources for the series.

I also found this on the Pacific War website:

Excellent. I heard rumors of this but didn't really believe them until now. This should be great.

Great news, but like von Poop I'd like to see something with the UK/Commonwealth/Allies produced.

But no Tiger or Panther tanks? In Hollywood they sure can get something instead, right?) ;)

To be screened in 2009 "The Pacific" 10 part mini serias by the Band of Brothers makers, taken from the late Robert Leckie'a book A helmet for my Pillow and the late Eugene B Sledge's book With the Old Breed.
It tells the story of 3 marines during their fight against the Japanese in the Pacific during WWII.

Sounds like something to keenly await for ;-D I wonder if Tom Hanks will have anything to do with this? If so, then you KNOW it will be tastefully done.

Should be interesting, I hope they keep the movie making standard as high as with the original Band of Brothers. There´s just so many rip-offs after a successful movie but I´d believe if just Spielberg-Hanks stay with the team no reason to worry.
