Hello. I was wondering if Hitler was pissed at the Japanese for conducting an attack on Pearl Harbor because it brought the U.S. into the war. I know that Hitler wanted to keep the U.S. out of the war for as long as possible because we were a major threat to him. And did he have any knowledge about the attack at Pearl Harbor? Thanks.

I think Hitler was somewhat relieved at first to know the Japanese had entered the war. He thought they would attack Russia in the back.As they did not it became a fatal mistake for Hitler to declare war on USA, as he did not receive the kind of help he thought in return from Japan.

Germany was not in war with USA until Dec 11 as he declared war on USA. Without this itīs hard to say when USA would have joined the war in Europe.

Hitler did have knowledge that the Japanese were planning an attack on the US Pacific Fleet, but was not forewarned that the attack date was to be December 7th, 1941.
The agreement between Germany and Japan was that when the Japs attacked Pearl Harbor, that would be Hitler's cue to declare war on America, which he did on December 11th.

Ultimately, Yes, Hitler was annoyed that the attack date came without his approval, and whilst he was not ready to committ forces at this time due to his engagements on the Ostfront, he stood true to his word that he would immediately back up the Japanese war effort on America.

Basically all japan did was stab Germany in the back. japan never contributed anything to help the German war effort--but the Germans contributed many things that helped the japanese war efforts--including a Uboat base and I think 10 Uboats. Kapitan zur See Wilhelm Dommes (Ritterkreuztrager) was in charge and located I think in Penang. U 181 and U 190 or U 191 were a part of this group of the Uboats stationed there in the last several months or year of the war.

An undeclared war was already in place on the Atlantic. The U.S. did everything "short of war" to become a belligrent against the Nazis. The Japanese attack was applaused by Hitler because he saw a chance that the uneviatable clash between U.S.A. and Germany would be postponed because of the two-front war the U.S.A. would have to fight.

That's the reason why he declared war on U.S., to force her into a two-front-war to buy time. Barabarossa 1941 was lost and he had no doubts that the U.S.A. will enter the war in 1942/43 anyway , and he had no doubts that a war Japan-U.S.A. alone wouldn't last very long. By forcing the U.S.A: into a two-ocean-war he believed to gain time.

Cheers,

No, of course he wastn't mad. He probably welcomed it. The US was already being pro-allied. So the fact is that they didn't respect their neutrality themselves.

Hitler wanted to destroy a lot of cargoships, tankers in american waters before they would know that armed ships would be the best to carry troops, ...

I think Hitler would have been very happy with the Jap's. Like In December 41, USA had Carriers in the atlantic and expected war with Germany. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor the US moved most of their navy to the East. Also with Japan in the war Hitler did not need to worry about Australians or NZ because they had to go home and defend themselves. USA had to fight a war in the Pacific using most of their Navy and lots of the airforce and army. Canada and USA had to protect the West coast. I know Canada placed 2 divisions on the west coast, which could have been distributed to Europe. Also Japanese subs were now picking off cargo ships from North America that were heading towards USSR in the "Arms for Russia" deal.

Do you think that Roosevelt purposely allowed an attack on Pearl Harbor so the U.S. could be brought into the war? I've heard a lot of rumors about this.
