Your right Jeff, great story. That is actually one of my favorite sites. I feel it's a good thing the Bergall was not scuttled as ordered. At the same time equally unfortunate that the Myoko would not sail again.

Great story ! In the first picture the camoflage on the Myoko is so good I did not even notice the large ship or boat next to the Myoko's hull !

A good story. The Naval Institute claims the hit was from an 8" er. They do sometime dramatize.
They did say the waters were only 11-14 fathoms deep there (abouts) which required the surface attack, and retirement.
Because most of the ship made it to Singapore, the "Bergall" was not credited with the sinking. "But that-to Hyde and company-was a mere technicality." Naval Institutes Submarine Actions of WW 2.
