Anybody have some info on the German hydrofoil development?
All I know is that they built a hydrofoil Versuchsschnellboot (VS-8) that had them, in 1943.

Everything really....
When did it start? What projects were envisaged? What results obtained? How far did they get?
I'd also like some info on the G1-G4 Geleitschiffe, I just saw that they carried a helicopter as standard armament. Was this the precursor to the modern ASW frigate?

Also, but this is of secondary importance - what was tested on the Versuchsschiffe Strahl and Claus von Bevern?
Radar? FuMO? Infra-Red?

also Harold Fock in his Die Deutsche Schnellboote 1914-1945 has materials on all the S-boot variants. ISBN # 3-7822-0802-1 about $ 35.00 US. don;t have a copy yet but it is on it's way next month.
let me know how that web-page works out Andreas, and I will still look around this chotic office of mine.

Good stuff Erich--good stuff.
Andreas--thanks for asking about these--I didnt know that the Kriegsmarine had anything like this--learn something new every day--as they say I'll have to have a discussion with my best friend in Germany--a Kriegsmarine German Cross in Gold Recipient.
By the way--my Wilhelm Gustloff cap tally will be donated to a German Marine Meoorial or Museum of the U 181 vets choice. Im pretty sure it will be on display at the Marine Memorial in Laboe. I will not know for sure untill all the Comrades get together for another meeting in a few months. They are to decide where this will go--I will let you know more when I do.
$189.00 spent for a great cause......

Actually I'm pretty sure that ,,Strahl´´ was used for FuMO testing. I seem to remember a reference to it and the name itself is rather suggestive.
