Hands down, so far it is Rommel as the majority's favorite.

I totally agree! I just love the "Desert Fox". His attitude, and ability to "lead from the front" and to be able to just "feel" a battle. He was a tremendous moral boost to the German troops who served under him! I have the utmost respect for him as a brilliant field commander!
Hell, Even George Patton and Winston Churchill liked Rommel!
Hard not to like him!

The British at least had that much respect for him in AFrica, that at one point they had to give an order for the troops not to speak of "Rommel this, Rommel that"..I don´t think very many generals have had that effect in history?
ANd didn´t Monty have a pic of him in his armored car? Probably Patton as well?

I would go for Rommel, although I would make a follow top three:
1. Rommel
2. Von Manstein
3. Zjoekov

Well, just because it is about your favourite commander... But when are you going to understand that he was a real pain in the ass for his junior and senior officers, that he was the quintaessential nazi general! OK: I kind of like him too.

I have to choose Patton. Rommel was the only German Commander that Patton thought was even worthy of holding the title of commander.

I chose 'Sepp' Dietrich because though he may not have been a military genius, he knew how to lead men. His men would have gone to hell and back for the man. He drove them hard but he did take care of them. A little bit of Patton (Assertiveness) and Rommel (Always thinking of hte men)put together.
