Well we've done most things, why not aircraft. My favourite aircraft of WWII are the Hawker Tempest - a wonderful fighter with a great turn of speed, a brilliant development of Haker low wing monoplanes.
http://cgi.tninet.se/~ytm843e/tempest.htm
Vought Corsair - this was a monster of an aircraft that once everyone realised its potential would go on and improve in combat, it was alo one of the fastest aircraft of WWII.
http://www.acepilots.com/planes/f4u_corsair.html
and finally probably the best all round aircraft of the war the De Havilland Mosquito - this plane could do jsut about anything it was aked to. It was a night fighter, bomber reconaisance plane and ground attack plane. All you could ask for in my opinion.

I'd have to say my favorites are the B-17 Flying Fortress and the F6F Hellcat.

Although not my very favorite, but one of them- the A-26 Invader, served in WWII, Korea (as B-26 Invader), and Vietnam.

My reasoning is based solely on the fact that I liked the aircraft for its appearance, load capabilities (up to 18 12.7mm's which was a lot for a two-seater), and long career in general, not for anything it did for the war effort.

I've always thought the P-38 was a bit under-appreciated in regards to performance, signifigance, and function. And I love the looks of the p-40, even though it was outdated. If it has a shark mouth it's just cool!

Doc, besides the P-51 armed Tuskeege airmen, wasn't the P-38 another aircraft flown by black airmen of the time?

The 332nd flew the P-47 first before handling the P-51. No P-38's to any black unit......sorry !

A site about a crashed G-1...Thanks!
It was the only fighter that had some succes in Dutch skies against the overpowering might of the Luftwaffe. It is a great plane and at the time rather up to date. Last true Fokker figher. Germans took the remaining G-1's and test flew them.
That is a great site, Martin, thanks for that! A lot of info about that particular crash and links to the Dutch G-1 foundation site. Picture of G-1 with German markings!

Ta, if you are ever in need of P-61 info give me a buzz. Especially the 9th AF 422nd and 425th nfs. I was a member of the night fighter association for some years before they shut down 2 years ago in October. Now all I have is memories....... !

Erich, I bought a new magizane yesterday and it is called Flight Journal. I never read one before but in the June 2003 issue they have a good article and pictures of Me-110 night fighter missions. It also has a copy of the Ju-88 picture by Nicolas Trudgian called Moonlight Hunter.
The article is by Dr. Rolf Ebhardt and Christopher Stuart.
If you can't find a copy I can try and scan the article to you on my scanner... Let me know.
