Excellent pictures and site--thank you for showing these.
There is a new book out which is about artillery and bunkers along the Fjords. I don't recall the name of the book but--I saw one of the pictures you posted that was in the book. It's the on eshowing all those German sailors swabbing out the guns.

They are big, but this must be big too a 1/72 scale kit of the fortification by Accurate Armour:
The figure give some idea of the scale of these things.

and these are not the only ones installed in the north, not quite as large as this Schiff's. It is interesting to note that after the huge turrets were removed the ship was used as a blockade by wars end to the Soviets and earlier as a heavy Flak platform

Think Eisenhower. Take off the er at the end, and add a Ga-N at the front.
Ga-neisenhow. Thats how I learnt it! I was watching a documentary one time and thought I heard mention of Eisenhower. Looked up and saw a battleship. Once that confusion passed I realised my mistake and Hey Presto! could pronounce gneisenau!!
