Best weapon?
Ivan.
Runs on anything from Grass to Vodka. No weather too tough, no mechanical failure. Good supply and easy to manufacture.

No to mention what JCFalkenbergIII said too...

Huh? I wasn't referencing the DUKW when I mentioned armor... I was addressing his misgivings with American vehicles and acknowledging the notion that American tanks were worth disparaging.
Yes the post is 3 tears old... so? I was responding to the thought..

I have to agree LOL. There are many so many characteristics and abilities to take into consideration in addition to a persons own views and bias. and for example what do you consider the "Best" in a weapon? Sometimes I think there should be another discussion on particular items about what people consider a "BEST" aspect of a weapon or vehicle. For example : "What is considered the best AFV for defensive use" or "What AFV is the best for breakthrough and why?? " Some vehicles were developed for tasks other then tank vs. tank. I consider the Tiger I to be the best tank for defensive work due to its armor and weapon. The Panther and T-34 for tank vs tank. And the Sherman as a breakthrough vehicle. Another thing is to clarify what type of Tank you are asking about. Light,Medium,Heavy. Tank vs Tank or Infantry? Breakthrough or Assault. There are many different uses of tanks. The same goes for Aircraft,Ships,Rifles,Ect.

Mines. Killing, maiming, disabling armor and thus slowing an attack. Good weapon.

Re: The best weapon of WW2?
I'll say the .50 caliber Browning machine gun. How many other World War Two weapons on this list are still in use today?

Can you please substantiate a bit more this interesting statement for us poor mortals?
This is what we normally associate with a B-52 but we have been proved wrong somewhat often...

Re: The best weapon of WW2?
The B-52 wasn't available till the late 50's. And there wasn't a bomb type carried by the AAF designated "B-52" in WWII.

Ok first of all do not ever believe games or documentaries as facts, because games are exactly that, they are games made for fun they bend facts and even break them. NEVER believe what is in them until verified by real history books about the subject. As for documentaries most of them I have found are the historians opinions not facts.
Here are some real facts on the king tiger.
Quote from AFV's of ww2
"The German King Tiger was introduced in early 1944 and was the most powerful tank during world war 2. With its powerful 88mm gun and an almost impenetrable front armor, it was one of the most feared weapons of world war 2. Up to the end of the war, the allies had not introduce any effective means to counter the threat.
However, the size and weight of the King Tiger had its share of problems. It suffered mechanically with many breakdowns and had poor maneuverability. Many roads and especially bridges were not suitable for a tank this size and the fuel requirements was enormous. Many were abandoned due to lack of fuel rather t | |
