Thats the one! My uncle filmed the Schnieder trophy race a few years back from a lynx helicopter... That plane was bright blue!

The Supermarine S5/S6/S6B series of Schneider Trophy floatplanes actually had not a great deal in common with the Spitfire - their greatest importance was as test-beds for what eventually became the Rolls Royce Merlin.
The true Spitfire progenitor was the Supermarine Type 224 ; -

So they are kinda the Spitfire's uncle, rather than father???
But they look cool... Sleekest seaplane I ever saw...
Wait for the flurry of sleek seaplane pics...

I did'nt know the Supermarine Type 224 was a forerunner to the Spitfire either. Thanks Martin.
It kind of reminds me of a single seat Stuka with the big spats. Maybe Junkers stole the design from Mitchell ??

I'll confuse you even further by saying that it's possible Mitchell stole the Spitfire's legendary elliptical wing design from Heinkel....

You may have something there. I was reading up on the Heinkel He-112B and the prototype used a Rolls Royce Kestrel engine. The wing and landing gear a very similar. I know there was alot of upper level visiting between the different countries before the war started and they probably "borrowed" each others ideas.
I read also the Luftwaffe sold some of the He-112's to the Japanese Naval Air Service but they did not like them and used the planes to train mechanics.
The Rumanians got some of the planes too and used them against the Russians.
