The 323 Gigant weighed 29.060 kg, ( 69.932 lbs ), empty. The B-29 weighed 31.815 kg, ( 70.140 lbs ). The Viking flying boat weighed 30.659 kg, ( 67.572 lbs ), almost as much as the B-29! By the end of 42 it had carried 1377 tons of cargo, 17.000 troops, & 2400 casualties in the Mediteranean. In Oct 43 a Viking shot down a Lancaster over Atlantic.

Well, let's not forget the Martin JRM-2 Mars. At a gross weight of 165,000 lbs and a 13,000 lb payload it could fly nearly 5,000 miles. Definitely a contender here. Oh, by-the-by one is currently for sale in Canada too.....if anyone's interested.....

Like to see a dogfight between a gigant & the spruce goose. Are there any shots of the JRM-2 Mars? When was it built?

In 1938 the Martin JRM Mars was developed to be a long-range patrol bomber, but by the time of the prototype (designated the XPB2M-1) made its first flight in 1943, its role and designation had been changed to that of a transport.

Well at 75.573 lbs, it would appear that the Mars was the heaviest.
