A version of the Maybach HL230 engine with direct fuel injection was being designed that would have improved power to about 1,000–hp, Henschel proposed to use it for future production and retrofitting to existing Tiger II's, but the deteriorating war situation meant the upgrade never left the drawing board.
What would happen if this was carried out years earlier.

With a more powerful engine there's a good chance that the flawed transmission would fail even more often.
Cheers,
Adam.

If the Germans could have tripled the production numbers of the heavy tanks then maybe...but would there be enough fuel to move them that´s another question.

IMHO, Germany would have fared better if they did not built the Tiger II at all, it was not a cost effective weapon : too long too expansive to build, too complicated to operate and maintain, too thirsty to supply etc...

The trouble with the Germans is they did not know when too stop. Next up the super heavy weight tanks The Maus and E-100

Tiger related vee-hickles production figures from Jentz & Doyles encyclopedia, 2004. Bear in mind that some of the 'lesser' vehicles are remanufactures.
Tiger - 1354
Tiger(p) - 5
TigerII - 489 (Porsche & Henschel)
Jagdtiger - 77
Ferdinand/Elefant - 90
Sturmmorser - 18
Cheers,
Adam

This can give you a starting point - the exact numbers are still hotly debated as much production information has been lost.

Wow...started to make them..in late 42!!! I did not know that.
Anybody know how long from production to service it would take for those, ones made in late 42?
I've head that the tiger(s) 1st saw action in 44, and that's why that 42 year..seems early

First unit to be equipped with Tiger 1(502 S.Pzabt) got theirs in August '42.
Tiger II issued to training units in feb & may '44. Combat units got some in June "5 months after production began" (J&D again)
