Re: Help identify
That looks like a knocked out Marder II. A Russian 7.62 cm gun on a czech38t chassis.

Re: Help identify
Just been on this very picture on a.n.other forum.
While I agree that it's a 131, I'd say that was very much a Pz.II. Chassis with probably a PaK40. Making it a slightly different flavour of Marder II. The 38t based PzJgr's are different beasts altogether
The body shape is different for the 76.2 version too, which would be an SdKfz 132.
... I'll crawl back under my rock now.
Cheers,
Adam.

Re: Help identify
you say tomato I say tomato..........a marder is a marder is a marder.
Adam..........you're tasking me again!
The Marder III held the Pak 40. The MarderI and II were a quick make up using surplus captured equipment. The Germans considered it a success (until the true jagdpanzers were finished) that they then incorporated the pak40.

Re: Help identify
Yes, it does appear to be a Pz II chassis. Funnily the soldier in the foreground is using what appears a Romanina helmet. Is this a training occasion or a propaganda shot after Operation Turncoat?
And why the same question by the same guy in two related forums? This is the mortal sin of Internet: crossposting

Re: Help identify
I also noticed the soldier. I do not believe the Marder was ever used by any of the Axis satellite nations. What is operation turncoat?

Re: Help identify
I am also tempted to believe this is an infantery unit posing on a Marder. They even carry their hand guns. Looks like a post battle or a propaganda picture to me. Rumanian helmet you say? Could be, I'm not expert in these and I would be interested in reading more about Turncoat too.

Re: Help identify
Most likely it's just a training film using an old hulk as a prop.
Skipper, see this for a starter.

Re: Help identify
What's popularly referred to as the Marder II came in two distinct forms that were manufactured in similar time periods, one carried a German gun:
One, manufactured from June 1942-June 1943 (plus 75 conversions of old chassis from July 43-march 44) mounting the 75mm Pak40/2, manufactured by FAMO, MAN & Daimler benz.
Full designation:
7.5cm PaK40/2 auf Fahrgestell Panzerkampfwagen (sdkfz 131) nickname: Marder II.
The other, manufactured from april 1942 to june 1943, mounting the Russian 76.2mm, manufactured by Alkett & Wegman.
Full designation:
Panzer Selbstfahrlafette 1 fur 7.62cm PaK36(r) auf fahrgestell PzKpfw II ausf D1 & D2 (sdkfz 132), not technically referred to as a Marder, the shortened designation (by god it needed it!) was 'LaS 762'.
While they're both lumped under Marder II they are in fact very different looking vehicles:
SdKfz131 (PaK40):
SdKfz132 (russki 76.2)
... I'll slither back under that rock now, I've got some rivets to count
Cheers,
Adam

Re: Help identify
I sure am!
(but I do at least feel some guilt about it, self-awareness is important in rivet-counting scrapers of tiny plastic Germans! )

Re: Help identify
Some more specimens for you. I'm sorry if they're not in the best condition.

Re: Help identify
Nice shot. (all 132's? )
Followed the url to the page it came from:
Howard Schickler Fine Art | Archive > Russian Photography
There's some superb photography there isn't there, though not cheap if you want those fine gelatin prints....

Re: Help identify
Nice Pictures but $5000? Might be a bit much.
