Default Martin Drewes Bf-110

I see a company is going to make Drewes Bf-110G-4 in die-cast but there seems to be a lot of uncertainty surrounding the actual plane. Some drawings show the aircraft with G9+WD with all the numbers and letters in black. Another shows G9+WD with the W painted green. There is talk about G9+MD and some say he had sMusik mounted right behind his seat and other say it was in the rear of the cockpit and still others say he didn't have sMusik. Some say he had 4 X MG17 mounted in the upper nose and 2 X MG151 in the lower nose while others say he just had the 2 guns in the upper nose.
This site for instance shows the 2 pictures of G9+WD and lists the guns. The green WD shows sMusik and the other one doesn't, who can tell me the correction picture and the correct weapons? When I was doing a searching Erich from this forum kept showing and he seems to be one of the many experts on here so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes, Erich is the man for that, but while he's out on another of his unending byke rides, let me take the opportunity to welcome you to the forum

wilkomme the weather sucks here

Fovcollector enjoy the brief video mit Rammstein

YouTube - Martin Drewes

Drewes flew WD which had a radar set at first and then removed for the day destroyer duties of US heavy bombers, it was then returned with full radar set and aerials, in the meantime he also flew a MD for night fighter sorties only and equipped with all the latest radar. Both machines had SChräge Musik but it was different in that it ws placed right behind Drewes and not in Erich Handkes lap as R/O and rear gunner which was standard fit. Also both machines had under nose 2cm cannon and upper nose 4-mg 17's not the normal 2cm or 3cm as Drewes felt it blew too much debris up and outward in the attacking night fighter. he is truly one of the few to stick to the original and old arms of the early 1940's till wars end.

HTH ?

Thanks for the welcome and the information. A very interesting video on You Tube, thanks.
Most of the drawings are of his Bf-110 NJG 1, March 1944, Laon-Athies with the black WD and a different paint scheme than the other drawing for Leeuwarden, Holland, July, 1944 that has the green W in WD like on this site Drewes Martin
Are these an early version of the Bf-110 and a late version, why the different paint schemes and coloring of the W? Is the plane with the black WD the one he used before the incident where he was shot in July 1944 and the green W the plane he flew after that? The information I have come across doesn't really make it perfectly clear about the paint schemes.
One person I've been talking too has a problem with the black WD having sMusik because it shows the drawing that Martin Drewes autographed of his plane and there is no sMusik and it doesn't look like there are 4 guns in the top of the nose.

well my info comes from a secondary that interviewed him at hand. he insists he never had the upper 3cm installed and yes since August/September 43 he had the SM installation. green or black numbers earlier I cannot say for fact as Martin has not really been one of the NF pilots I have really dealt with closely, so I have not explored the possibilites

Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate it. Maybe someone else can explain the black W in WD versus the green W in WD found in so many drawings.

well I can say late war when the camo would of been a background of RLM 76 grey-white-blue the codes may have been a dark grey and not black

I thin Erich said it all. I confirm the Schäge Musik.
About the code letters both versions may be right. Drewes mostly flew his "personnal aircraft" GD+WD but he also used other airplanes when his usual craft was in maintenance. (servicing , repairs etc.. ) . Drewes always had the latest inovations and was one of the first pilots in NJG1 to be fitted with these. The codes were probably very dark grey . The RLM76 also had some aspects that were almost purple among the grey-white-blue.

Thumbs up Re: Martin Drewes Bf-110

Welcome to the Forums, fovcollector ( a name I seem to recall from elsewhere... ).

I am greatly looking forward to the model of Martin Drewes' aircraft ( he has been the subject of discussions on this Forum in the past ). With luck, we will be seeing a 110 model from another diecast manufacturer next year, celebrating yet another Luftwaffe Nightfighter ace.....

Smile Re: Martin Drewes Bf-110

Well, Hobbymaster have delivered the goods - here is their Bf110G-4 'Martin Drewes' which FOVCollector alerted us to last year.....

It's not perfect - there's no crew and the cockpit canopy is not very well-detailed. But manufacturers have shied away from making models of Luftwaffe nightfighters because the aerials are difficult to tackle and the 'blotchy' paint is very hard to reproduce in scale. OK, HobbyMaster haven't quite got it right but full marks for trying - keep in mind that this model is around £24 in the UK ; good value.

And at long last, diecast colelctors have a presentable display model of a very important WWII aircraft type......

I want it, I want it! Where can I buy it in France? The leitwork is beautiful. Who cares about the fact that there are some doubts, I couldn't have done it better, so it's beautiful. By the way is the second airman still a secret or not?

The second airman is still secret but will be seen before the end of this year....

The model is available in the UK from specialist retailers ; I really don't know of any diecast aviation retailers in France ( I checked French e-bay are no models are available - I guess the hobby is not so popular there ? )

Certainly there are retailers in Holland ( for instance, I believe one of the largest is at Schiphol Airport ). Production runs for such models are often relatively limited so its worth putting in the effort to find one if you want it......

I can assure you that there are many fanatic modelists in France too. An address in Holland would be fine however. I will be going there in a few weeks. Thanks Martin I will focuss on both countries. If someone find sone on Ebay or elsewhere with delivery to France I'd be happy to buy one.
