Default What the heck do I have?

Hey all,
My wife bought me a So called German Helmet for X-MAS she got it from cheaper than dirt ,mistake one! lol She don`t know any better but she pays 199.97 for this thing smells of paint and check this out. I cannot figure out what type helmet I have?? This thing has like the M40 which that`s what this is well youk now? Anyhow this thing has 5 area`s for headliner zincs? the vent hole is right. One of the zinc areas are done with 2 pc. rivets??

I`m sending it back unless I find Hitlers wallet in it or something he,he. So on the back of the shell it has this rectangle D kinda bar like to hook something to it? also the liners Bales are modern "D"ring not like the fixed bale helmet of the U.S. M1 helmet from WWII (which Ihave a few nice ones.

Though before I send it back I would love to find out what the heck it is oh yeah the inside rim is rolled in and has a 6? looks like 5 but may be 6 looks like there`s pitting?Look`s like it`s a 66 cuz there is no 65.
I`m going to go take some pics and hopefully you all can look and tell me what I have? I thank you all
Spike

That rivet sure throws me off. Nice pennant. Don't be too hard on the wife, at least she is willing to please you and your hobby. Cheers.

The d bar, colour and rivit scream 'Spanish' to me, but I'd need a better look at the liner and it seems to be missing the front d-bar (which are usually for badges).

Can't find anything on here:

hey all Iput some more pics up was not for sure how many I could put up maybe that will help faster??? It does`nt look like it has the front thing on the spanish helmets I mean the steal does`nt show of any working on it to try and fake it sanding and so on. Maybe it was an officers? Who know these things? The head liner is not original and it`s wrong as well looks more like a civliain type liner. What do you guy`s think about Hesian helmets/ militaria?? They have real helmets just refurbished. I had my prize SS helmet but it was stolen along with my Browning high Power waffen SS all matching #`s clip even matched the gun high cap clip, I can`t remember off hand but it`s like 3,401 had the eagles and hallmarks even the holster matched/went with that gun was #`ed as well.

Well atleast that won`t happen again, it will hurt to much for it to happen again, oh and Iwon`t feel a damn thing ! lol I was looking there and another place had some nice helmets but man you`ve got to be supercarefull ya know. I can even this helmet, a dremel, some filler, sand make it look like it`s got 30% of covering make the stickers look real weather it liner & all and all but that`s for fun not for sale for large amounts of cash some folks can sleep with that at night ,I cannot and will not. Even though I`ve got a strange strange helmet never seen so many liner holes? I thought Spanish when I saw it but it was missing somethings and had too many of others and one part that no one has any Idea about ! lol I thank all who look and put their input in thank you.

Lightbulb Re: What the heck do I have?

This helmet looks identical to, and may well be, a WWII Hungarian helmet ( which was obviously based on the German pattern ).

A photo can be seen on p.114 of Floyd Tubbs' book 'Stahlhelm' and the positioning of the rear hanging bar and rivets tally exactly.
